Today is Purim. It commemorates a time when, in ancient Persia, the Jewish people were rescued from certain genocide because of a wicked plot devised by the vizier Haman. Queen Esther is approached by her uncle, Mordecai, to appeal to the King on behalf of her Jewish brethren, telling her that she was in her position as Queen… “for such a time as this.” Risking her life to do so, she approaches the King and makes her appeal, resulting in the death of the wicked Haman and life for the Jewish people. The story reveals God’s hidden involvement in our world that never ceases. It’s a promise of hope that extends to the 21st century when we, as believers, we too should stand tall and make our appeal “… for such a time as this.”
